Calvin Duncan Wrongfully Convicted of Murder at Age 19 in Louisiana
Calvin Duncan was convicted of murder in New Orleans at age 19 in 1982 and sentenced to life in prison. Duncan spent 28 years incarcerated before teaching himself law, becoming a jailhouse lawyer who successfully argued the appeals of dozens of fellow inmates. His own conviction was vacated in 2010 after evidence showed the actual perpetrator had been identified. Duncan later obtained a law license and became a practicing attorney.
