Supreme Court Blocks Trump National Guard Deployment to Chicago

The US Supreme Court denied President Trump's request to lift lower court injunctions blocking his deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago and across Illinois, in an unsigned order by an apparent 6-3 vote on December 23, 2025. The court stated that the president had failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois. The ruling kept in place the block on deploying approximately 300 Illinois National Guard members to Chicago for immigration enforcement operations.
