ICE uses 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos as "bait" after preschool pickup

On Jan. 20, 2026, masked ICE agents arrested Ecuadorian asylum-seeker Adrian Conejo Arias and detained his 5-year-old son Liam after school pickup in Columbia Heights, MN. School officials allege agents led the child to knock on a door to gain entry; DHS claimed the father fled and abandoned the child. Both were transferred to Texas. A federal judge later ordered their release.
