FCC opens equal time investigation of The View, CBS pulls Colbert interview

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr launched an enforcement action against ABC's "The View" after it hosted James Talarico, a Texas Democrat running for U.S. Senate, triggering equal time provisions of Section 315 of the Communications Act. CBS declined to air Stephen Colbert's interview with Talarico, citing legal guidance about equal time obligations; the segment was posted to YouTube instead. Carr announced he was tightening the equal time rule by removing the "bona fide news interview" exemption from shows he deemed "motivated by partisan purposes."
