Biden updates presidential and vice-presidential service badge rules

President Joe Biden signed Executive Order 14131 on December 20, 2024, updating older executive orders that govern the Presidential Service Certificate, Presidential Service Badge, and Vice Presidential Service Badge. The order clarified which uniformed-service members can receive the certificate or badge after service in the White House Office, the White House Military Office, the Executive Office of the President, or the Office of the Vice President. It also updated who may award the badges across the military departments, Homeland Security, Commerce, and Health and Human Services. This was a narrow military-honors and personnel action, but it shows how presidents use executive orders to revise long-running recognition systems for service members assigned to presidential and vice-presidential support roles.
