Trump EO Directs DEA to Expedite Marijuana Rescheduling from Schedule I to Schedule III
President Trump signed an executive order directing the Attorney General and DEA to complete the rulemaking process to reschedule marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act "in the most expeditious manner." The DOJ immediately placed FDA-approved marijuana products and state-licensed medical marijuana in Schedule III via administrative order, initiating a formal hearing process starting June 29, 2026, for broader rescheduling. Full rescheduling requires DEA administrative process under federal law.
