DOJ indicts former Fauci adviser David Morens over COVID records

The Department of Justice indicted David M. Morens, 78, former senior adviser to NIAID Director Anthony Fauci, on April 28, 2026, on charges of conspiracy against the United States, destruction and falsification of federal records, and concealment of records. Prosecutors alleged Morens and co-conspirators used his personal Gmail account to hide COVID-19 origins communications from FOIA requests, and that he attempted to restore a cancelled EcoHealth Alliance grant to suppress the lab-leak hypothesis.
