Biden creates first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, names VP Harris to lead it

President Biden signs an executive order establishing the first dedicated White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, naming Vice President Kamala Harris to oversee it. The office is tasked with coordinating federal agency responses to gun violence, implementing provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act signed in June 2022, and advancing additional executive actions. Biden announces the office in the wake of continued mass shootings. Greg Jackson Jr., a gun violence survivor and advocate, is named the office's director. Advocates call the creation of a permanent White House office a historic shift in how the federal government institutionalizes gun violence as a public health and safety priority.
