Biden signs landmark AI executive order directing federal agencies to set safety standards

President Biden signs Executive Order 14110, "Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence", the most comprehensive federal action on AI in U.S. history. The order directs over 50 federal entities to take more than 100 actions covering AI safety testing, biosecurity risks, export controls on chips that could enable foreign adversaries to develop dangerous AI, consumer protection, worker impacts, and civil rights safeguards. It requires AI companies developing frontier models to share safety test results with the federal government before public release. President Trump revokes the executive order on his first day back in office.
