Biden restores Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments reversing Trump

President Biden signs proclamations restoring Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah, and the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, reversing Trump-era reductions that had dramatically shrunk the monuments. Bears Ears is restored to its full 1.35 million acres, and Grand Staircase-Escalante returns to its 1.9 million acres. Tribal nations who fought for Bears Ears designation, Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Zuni Tribe, and the Ute Mountain Ute and Ute Indian tribes, celebrate at the signing ceremony. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland calls the restoration a historic recognition of Indigenous sovereignty.
