Pentagon laser shoots down CBP drone in second Texas airspace incident
The US military used a high-energy laser to shoot down a Customs and Border Protection drone near Fort Hancock, Texas, after the drone entered restricted military airspace without coordination. The Pentagon, CBP, and FAA issued a joint statement acknowledging the military employed counter-drone authorities against what it called a seemingly threatening unmanned aerial system. The FAA closed additional airspace near El Paso. The incident was the second such disruption in two weeks; the first involved a CBP anti-drone laser shooting down party balloons.
