Trump first term reinstates Twin Metals mining leases Antofagasta owner rents home to Kushner
In the early days of Trump's first term, the Department of the Interior reinstates the Twin Metals federal mineral leases near the Boundary Waters that Obama declined to renew in 2016. The reinstatement raises conflict-of-interest questions. Antofagasta's billionaire owner Andrónico Luksic purchased a $5.5 million Washington, D.C. mansion after Trump's election in 2016, which he rented to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner throughout the first term. Environmental groups file suit. The leases will be cancelled again under Biden in 2022.
