OPM says 75,000 federal workers accepted the deferred-resignation buyout

The Office of Personnel Management reported that approximately 75,000 federal employees accepted the administration's deferred resignation offer, which promised eight months of pay without work requirements through September 2025. The buyout was part of DOGE-driven efforts to sharply reduce the federal workforce. Legal challenges from federal unions contested whether the offer was enforceable, and several courts had issued conflicting temporary restraining orders on the program.
