Biden administration expands CBP One to allow asylum seekers to schedule border appointments
CBP One's asylum scheduling function launches on January 12, 2023, allowing migrants in northern and central Mexico to submit biographic and biometric data and schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry. The expansion follows record-high migrant encounters at the southwest border. Under the system, migrants processed through CBP One appointments are placed into removal proceedings, paroled into the US for two years, and allowed to apply for asylum. In its first six months, over 170,000 individuals book appointments.
