National Voter Registration Act is signed into law

President Bill Clinton signed the National Voter Registration Act on May 20, 1993, requiring states to offer voter registration at motor vehicle agencies, public assistance offices, and by mail. The law also prohibited states from removing voters from rolls within 90 days of a federal election. It established the first federal floor for voter registration access, affecting all 50 states.
