Trump signs executive order creating Great American Recovery Initiative

President Trump signed Executive Order 14379 on January 29, 2026, creating the Great American Recovery Initiative, a White House coordinating body co-chaired by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kathryn Burgum, a recovery advocate. The order directed the initiative to coordinate federal addiction response across agencies, set objectives, and publish data-driven progress reports, but appropriated no new federal funding. The initiative replaced no existing programs; the Office of National Drug Control Policy and SAMHSA retained their statutory authority.
