DOGE Officials Granted Access to Bureau of Fiscal Service Payment Systems
Treasury Department officials, under pressure from DOGE, granted Marko Elez and other DOGE-affiliated personnel read and write access to the Bureau of Fiscal Service systems that process approximately $6 trillion in annual federal payments, including Social Security, Medicare, and federal payroll. Acting BFS Commissioner Tom Krause authorized the access over objections from career Treasury staff. Nineteen state attorneys general led by New York AG Letitia James filed suit within days, arguing the access violated the Privacy Act and posed a systemic security risk.
