FBI executes search warrant at Trump Mar-a-Lago seizing more than 100 classified documents
FBI agents execute a court-authorized search warrant at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, seizing more than 11,000 government documents including over 100 with classified markings, some at the Top Secret/SCI level. It is the first time in U.S. history that a former president's home has been searched by federal law enforcement. Trump calls the search "prosecutorial misconduct." DOJ Attorney General Merrick Garland announces the search publicly three days later after Trump reveals it. Special Counsel Jack Smith is appointed in November to investigate the documents and January 6.
