Supreme Court Rules Presidents Have Immunity for Official Acts

The Supreme Court held 6-3 in Trump v. United States that former presidents enjoy absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for acts within their core constitutional powers and presumptive immunity for all official acts. The Court remanded the January 6 federal case to the district court to determine which of Trump's alleged acts were official. Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by the five other conservative justices.
