Trump DOJ drops all criminal charges against whistleblower Haim one month before trial

U.S. District Judge David Hittner signed an order dismissing all four HIPAA criminal charges against Dr. Eithan Haim on January 15, 2025, one month before his trial was scheduled to begin. The Department of Justice, acting under the new Trump administration, dropped the charges with prejudice — meaning Haim cannot be re-prosecuted on those counts. Haim had maintained throughout the proceedings that he had redacted patient identifying information before sharing the documents and that exposing ongoing violations of state law justified the disclosure.
