Senate parliamentarian strikes down four GOP immigration enforcement provisions from reconciliation bill

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled on May 14, 2026 that four sections of the Republican $72 billion immigration enforcement reconciliation bill violated the Byrd Rule. The rejected provisions included $19.1 billion for Customs and Border Protection and funding for ICE operations that MacDonough found either exceeded committee jurisdiction or undermined existing protections for unaccompanied migrant children. Republicans must rewrite the rejected sections before bringing the bill to the Senate floor.
