Senate parliamentarian strikes down four GOP immigration enforcement provisions from reconciliation bill

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled on May 14, 2026 that four sections of the Republican $72 billion immigration enforcement reconciliation bill violated the Byrd Rule. The rejected provisions included $19.1 billion for Customs and Border Protection and funding for ICE operations that MacDonough found either exceeded committee jurisdiction or undermined existing protections for unaccompanied migrant children.
