Islamabad talks collapse after 21 hours, Trump orders naval blockade of Iran

Pakistan brokers a two-week ceasefire on April 8. Vice President JD Vance leads a U.S. delegation of approximately 300 to Islamabad for the highest-level face-to-face U.S.-Iran engagement since 1979. Iran's delegation is led by Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Araghchi. After 21 hours of direct negotiations, the talks collapse over the nuclear issue. The U.S. offers a grand bargain including sanctions relief. Iran demands sovereignty over the Strait, reparations, and unfreezing of assets. The delegations could not agree on sequencing. Iran sought sanctions relief before military de-escalation while the U.S. demanded nuclear commitments first. On April 12, following the collapse, Trump orders a naval blockade of Iran. Trump tweets "The meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not." He warns "Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!"
