US special forces capture Iranian vessel laying mines in Persian Gulf Operation Prime Chance begins
U.S. Army special operations helicopters and Navy SEALs capture the Iranian vessel Iran Ajr while it is laying mines in the Persian Gulf at night. The operation, part of the classified Operation Prime Chance, is the first tactical operation of U.S. Special Operations Command involving Navy SEALs, Special Boat Units, and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment working together. The captured mines are the same type that had damaged the USS Bridgeton weeks earlier.
