Sotomayor and Jackson Dissent: Immunity Ruling Makes President a King

Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson filed separate, scathing dissents in Trump v. United States, arguing the majority had placed the president above the law for the first time in American history. Sotomayor wrote that under the ruling a president could order SEAL Team Six to assassinate a political rival and face no criminal accountability if characterized as an official act. Jackson warned the decision created a structural incentive for presidents to commit crimes through official channels.
