DeSantis Announces April Special Session to Redraw Florida Congressional Maps

Governor Ron DeSantis announced a special session of the Florida Legislature for late April 2026 to redraw the state's 28 congressional districts. DeSantis made the announcement without disclosing a proposed map, signaling that he intended to personally direct the process. Republicans controlled both chambers of the Florida Legislature by wide margins. The announcement came as mid-decade redistricting efforts were underway in Texas and other states at the behest of President Donald Trump, who needed additional Republican seats to protect his House majority heading into the 2026 midterms.
