Thousands Protest Federal Takeover of DC Police

Thousands of demonstrators gathered across Washington to protest the federal seizure of the Metropolitan Police Department and National Guard deployment. Protest organizers included civil rights groups, labor unions, and DC neighborhood associations. Federal troops were visibly present throughout the demonstrations. Several protest leaders were detained and released, the first arrests directly connected to the new federal policing apparatus.
