Senate Republicans kill a bill requiring dark money donors to identify themselves for the fourth time in 12 years
Senate Republicans blocked the DISCLOSE Act of 2022 with a 49-49 cloture vote — the fourth time in twelve years that disclosure legislation failed to clear the Senate filibuster. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse had reintroduced the bill requiring organizations spending more than $10,000 on elections to disclose donors of $10,000 or more within 24 hours. Senator McConnell again led opposition, framing donor disclosure as a threat to free speech and associational rights.
