ALEC disbands its Public Safety Task Force after Trayvon Martin's killing
After the February 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, the American Legislative Exchange Council disbanded its Public Safety and Elections Task Force on April 17, 2012. The task force had pushed Florida's 2005 Stand Your Ground statute as model legislation that spread to 30 states. Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Kraft, McDonald's, Wendy's, and dozens more corporate members publicly left ALEC over the following months.
