ICE re-arrests El Gamal family hours after federal court orders release

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery in San Antonio had ordered Hayam El Gamal and her five children released from ICE detention on April 23, 2026. Two days later, ICE arrested the family again at their first required check-in and placed them on a deportation flight to Egypt. Judges Biery and Nina Wang of the District of Colorado issued emergency orders halting deportation mid-flight; the plane returned the family to Denver that night.
