Biden revokes Muslim travel ban on Day 1
On his first day in office, President Biden signs Presidential Proclamation 10141 revoking Trump's travel ban on citizens from 13 countries, primarily Muslim-majority nations including Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, as well as restrictions targeting several African countries. Biden calls the ban "a stain on our national conscience" and directs the State Department to expedite visa processing for people from the affected countries. The revocation ends nearly four years of a policy that civil rights groups had challenged as a Muslim ban. The move is among the most symbolically significant reversals of Trump-era domestic policy.
