Virginia Democrats Win Trifecta: Spanberger Elected Governor, Party Flips House of Delegates

Abigail Spanberger won Virginia's governorship on Nov. 4, 2025 with 57.24% of the vote, defeating Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. Democrats simultaneously flipped Virginia's House of Delegates 64–36, ending divided government and giving Democrats a full trifecta. The result was the largest Democratic margin in a Virginia governor's race in decades and was read as a rebuke of Trump amid the federal shutdown.
