Vance Formally Resigns From Ohio Senate Seat to Assume Vice Presidency

JD Vance formally resigned from his Ohio Senate seat effective midnight January 10, 2025, to prepare for taking the vice presidency on Jan. 20. Vance had been elected to the Senate in November 2022 and served less than one full term; under the 17th Amendment, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as Vance's Senate successor, adding a 53rd Republican seat to the Senate.
