USCIS Terminates Temporary Protected Status for 800,000 Immigrants

US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status designations for nationals of El Salvador, Ukraine, Venezuela, and five other countries, affecting approximately 800,000 people. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem cited changed conditions in the home countries as justification under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Recipients faced deportation unless they secured another legal status before their TPS expiration dates, which varied by country from 2025 through 2026.
