Biden launches $7.5 billion national EV charging network
The Biden administration announces the launch of funding for a national electric vehicle charging network under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, beginning the build-out of 500,000 EV chargers nationwide along highways and in rural communities. States begin selecting charging corridors. The first federally funded EV charging stations are announced in 35 states. The program requires chargers to be built and maintained by American workers and use American-made equipment. Critics later note slow early progress, pointing out that by late 2024, only seven stations with 38 chargers had been built, a pace that accelerates significantly in 2024.
