The Lancet publishes Wakefield's MMR-autism paper, which is retracted 12 years later
The Lancet published Andrew Wakefield's paper on February 28, 1998 claiming a link between the MMR vaccine and autism in 12 children at London's Royal Free Hospital. UK General Medical Council and Sunday Times investigations later found Wakefield manipulated patient data and held undisclosed financial conflicts. The Lancet partially retracted the paper in 2004 and fully retracted it on February 2, 2010, and the GMC struck Wakefield from the medical register in May 2010.
