IPC declares unprecedented Gaza famine affecting 500,000 people
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification declared a full famine in Gaza affecting 500,000 people, the largest such designation in the conflict zone since the October 2023 war began. The IPC found that virtually the entire population of 2.1 million faced acute food insecurity. Aid organizations called on Israel to immediately open more crossing points and on the U.S. to apply pressure.
