DOJ identifies 384 naturalized citizens for first wave of denaturalization cases

The Department of Justice on April 23, 2026, disclosed it had identified 384 naturalized Americans as the first wave of civil denaturalization cases under a new initiative backed by the Trump administration. Civil litigators in 39 regional offices were enlisted to handle the cases, which allege willful misrepresentation during the naturalization process. The 384 referrals already exceeded the total filed during the entire Biden administration, and DOJ officials described more cases as forthcoming.
