Trump administration releases dietary guidelines prioritizing animal protein, warning against ultra-processed foods
HHS Secretary RFK Jr. and USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins released the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans on January 7, the most significant nutrition policy overhaul in decades. The guidelines recommended doubling protein intake (to 1.2–1.6g per kg of body weight), endorsed eggs, red meat, and full-fat dairy, and for the first time explicitly warned against highly processed packaged foods. Saturated fat limits were maintained at 10% of calories but guidance now lists butter and beef tallow as acceptable fats.
