Angie Craig is a U.S. Representative serving Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District since January 2019. Born Angela Dawn Craig on February 14, 1972, in West Helena, Arkansas, she was raised by a single mother in a mobile home park. Craig earned a journalism degree from the University of Memphis in 1994, working two jobs to pay tuition while editing the campus newspaper. She worked as a reporter at The Commercial Appeal before moving into the corporate sector at Smith & Nephew (1997) and later St. Jude Medical (2005), where she rose to Vice President of Communications and then Head of Global Human Resources. Craig first ran for Congress in 2016, narrowly losing to Republican Jason Lewis, then defeated him in their 2018 rematch. She is the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Minnesota and the first lesbian mother to serve in Congress. In the 119th Congress, Craig serves as Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee, the first openly LGBTQ+ person and first woman to hold that position. She announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate in April 2025, running for retiring Sen. Tina Smith's seat.
