Nanette Diaz Barragán represents California's 44th Congressional District, covering communities in south Los Angeles County including Compton, San Pedro, and Watts. The youngest of eleven children raised by Mexican immigrant parents in Harbor City, she earned her B.A. from UCLA and her J.D. from USC Gould School of Law before practicing at Latham & Watkins and serving on the Hermosa Beach City Council. She won election in 2016 as the first Latina to represent CA-44 and now serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where she champions environmental justice, climate-related public health protections, immigration reform, and healthcare access.
