Daniel Reed Crenshaw is a U.S. Representative serving Texas's 2nd Congressional District since January 2019. Born March 14, 1984, in Aberdeen, Scotland, to American parents, he grew up in Katy, Texas, and spent part of his childhood in Ecuador and Colombia. Crenshaw graduated from Tufts University in 2006 with a B.A. in International Relations and later earned a Master in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School. He served 10 years as a Navy SEAL officer on SEAL Team 3, completing five combat deployments. During his third deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2012, an IED explosion destroyed his right eye and severely damaged his left. After multiple surgeries, he regained sight in his left eye, deployed twice more, and medically retired as a Lieutenant Commander in September 2016. His military decorations include two Bronze Star Medals (one with Valor), the Purple Heart, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor. First elected in November 2018, Crenshaw currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee (Vice Chair, Environment Subcommittee) and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (Chairman, Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture Subcommittee).
