Mark James DeSaulnier (born March 31, 1952) is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 10th congressional district since 2023, and previously the 11th district from 2015 to 2023. A Democrat, DeSaulnier was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, earned his B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross, and moved to California in the early 1970s where he owned several Bay Area restaurants. He served on the Concord City Council (1991-1994), the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors (1994-2006), the California State Assembly (2006-2008), and the California State Senate (2008-2015) before winning election to Congress in 2014. A cancer survivor diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2015, DeSaulnier survived a near-fatal bout of pneumonia in 2020 that kept him hospitalized for nearly two months. He serves on the committees on Education and the Workforce, Ethics, and Transportation and Infrastructure.
