Gabe Amo represents Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House, where he serves as Vice Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Ranking Member of the Environment Subcommittee on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Born December 11, 1987, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to immigrants from Ghana and Liberia, Amo became the first person of color elected to represent Rhode Island in Congress when he won a 2023 special election to replace David Cicilline. Before Congress, Amo served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs under President Biden, worked in the Obama administration's Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, and served as Director of Public Engagement and Community Affairs for Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo. A Wheaton College graduate (B.A. Political Science, 2010, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Marshall Scholar who earned a Master of Philosophy in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford, Amo won re-election in 2024 with 63% of the vote.
