Joaquin Castro is a Democratic U.S. Representative serving Texas's 20th Congressional District, which covers most of San Antonio. First elected in 2012, he is now in his seventh term. Castro serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he focuses on Western Hemisphere policy and national security oversight. The Center for Effective Lawmaking recognized him as the most effective Democratic House Member in international affairs during the 118th Congress. Before entering Congress, Castro represented the 125th district in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013. He is the identical twin brother of Julian Castro, the former HUD Secretary and San Antonio mayor.
