Tom Barrett, a 22-year U.S. Army veteran and helicopter pilot who logged over 1,000 flight hours in Iraq, Kuwait, Guantanamo Bay, and the Korean DMZ, won Michigan's competitive 7th District seat in 2024 by defeating Democrat Curtis Hertel with 50.3% of the vote, flipping a seat previously held by Democrat Elissa Slotkin. Before Congress, Barrett served four years in the Michigan House (2015-2019) where he chaired the Agriculture Committee, and four years in the Michigan Senate (2019-2023) where he chaired the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He now serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Technology Modernization.
