Connecticut Civics Standards
Connecticut's Elementary and Secondary Social Studies Standards, adopted 2023 with updates in 2024, fully implement the C3 Framework's four-dimensional Inquiry Arc: developing questions and planning inquiries, applying disciplinary concepts (civics, economics, geography, history), evaluating sources and using evidence, and communicating conclusions and taking informed action. Civics content covers civic and political institutions, the role of law and rule of law, democratic participation, founding principles, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. The 2024 updates expand culturally responsive content integrating Native American history, AAPI studies, LGBTQ+ history, and contemporary issues including climate change and social-emotional development. High school graduation requires a government or civics course; assessment occurs through the Connecticut SAT School Day assessment and locally developed measures.
