Oklahoma Social Studies Standards (2025)
Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies - 2025 edition adopted February 2025. Standards were influenced by American Birthright: The Civics Alliance's Model K-12 State Standards and strengthened civics and constitutional studies across every grade with pro-American exceptionalism focus, coverage of Judeo-Christian influence, dedicated high school electives on Ancient and Medieval World History and History of 20th Century Totalitarianism. The 2025 adoption process was controversial, with procedural irregularities noted. CURRENT STATUS (as of May 2026): A 2026 revision process is underway. The Oklahoma State Board of Education approved a revised draft March 26, 2026 and submitted it to the Oklahoma Legislature April 1, 2026. The 2026 revision was developed through a separate process and explicitly does not use American Birthright influence. Oklahoma state law (HB 1978) requires Native American history content; verify this is preserved in the 2026 revision. The 2025 standards are the current classroom standard pending legislative action on the 2026 revision.
