An OFAC General License is a standing authorization issued by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control that permits categories of transactions otherwise blocked by U.S. sanctions. Unlike specific licenses, which require individual applicants to apply, a general license allows anyone who qualifies under its terms to proceed without prior Treasury approval. General licenses can be revoked, modified, or allowed to expire, immediately reinstating the underlying sanctions prohibition for covered transactions.
