Gloria Lopez Torres is sentenced in the San Luis ballot-collection case

Yuma County Superior Court sentenced San Luis Councilwoman Gloria Lopez Torres to two years of supervised probation and a $2,500 fine. The Arizona Attorney General disposition log says Torres pleaded guilty to misdemeanor ballot abuse after admitting she accepted seven early ballots from Nadia Guadalupe Lizarraga-Mayorquin during the August 4, 2020 San Luis municipal primary. KYMA reported that Torres could finish her current council term but could not run for or be appointed to public office again under a special sentence term. The case put an elected official inside a ballot-collection prosecution that started with local primary ballots, not a presidential vote count.
