Raphael Warnock wins Georgia Senate runoff Democrats expand Senate majority

Reverend Raphael Warnock defeats Republican Herschel Walker in the Georgia Senate runoff by a 51.4%-48.6% margin, giving Democrats their 51st Senate seat and a genuine majority for the first time, no longer dependent on Vice President Harris's tiebreaking vote. The win gives Democrats more flexibility to confirm judges and pass legislation without needing perfect party unity. Warnock becomes the first Black senator to win reelection in the South. Walker, a Trump-backed candidate, was dogged by revelations of domestic violence and controversy over allegedly paying for abortions despite running as anti-abortion.
